Hello, Lucky Dog friends and Lakeside  community!

In our beloved corner of Mexico—where many of us have found a second home—a very special calling is ringing out: Lucky Dog Shelter and Adoption Center needs passionate, committed volunteers.

Why We Need You

Love and companionship for our dogs: Many of our four-legged residents are just waiting for someone to walk them, scratch their ears, or share a kind word.

A renewed sense of purpose: Spending time with these animals reconnects us to the simple joys of life and reminds us how powerful unconditional love can be.

Strengthening community ties: Together, we can create a welcoming space to swap stories, share laughter, and enjoy the fresh air.

Who We’re Looking For

Open hearts and willing spirits: No prior experience required—just a desire to learn and to give your best.

Flexible availability: You can join us for a couple of hours a week or come every day—every minute makes a difference.

Respect and sensitivity: Our shelter is a safe, inclusive space where everyone—humans and pups alike—deserves kindness and respect.

What You’ll Gain

Daily joy: Wiggly tails, perky ears, and grateful eyes are waiting.

New friendships: Connect with fellow volunteers from near and far.

Emotional well-being: It’s proven that time spent with animals reduces stress and fills the heart with happiness.

Your experience, your company, and your smile are exactly what these dogs need! Come share your time and warmth—together we’ll make Lucky Dog Shelter and Adoption Center an even more loving home.

I understand that:

  • I am expected to be a positive ambassador of Lucky Dog. This includes, in part:

    • Reflecting the highest standards of ethical and responsible behavior in the fulfillment of my volunteer duties.

    • Avoiding potential conflicts of interest.

    • Treating information related to Lucky Dog operations, policies, plans, goals finances and any contractual relationships with outside entities as privileged and confidential information.

  • The safety of volunteers and dogs is of the utmost importance, and I must adhere to all implemented safety measures. This includes proper use of double gates and reporting any injuries to the Shift Lead.

  • I am under no obligation to do anything that makes me feel uncomfortable.

  • Lucky Dog is not liable for any accidents I may incur.

  • Any dog I choose to rescue is my sole responsibility, and placement at Lucky Dog is not expected or guaranteed.

  • Lucky Dog does not euthanize to make room in the shelter; however, we believe that when an animal is suffering from irreparable medical or behavior condition, euthanasia is the most humane and ethical course of action.

SHIFT VOLUNTEERS

Shift Volunteers help keep both human and dog areas of the shelter clean. They wash towels and blankets and make sure sufficient cleaning and disinfectant supplies are on hand. Volunteers deal with the public when they come in, welcoming them to the shelter, and adopting out the perfect dog to the perfect person. They teach dogs to use good manners such as “sit” and “stay”.

Volunteers communicate with the vets, keeping the vets apprised of health issues, and following through on veterinary advice and prescriptions. Of course with any job comes paperwork. Volunteers keep meticulous records on all of the dogs, and communicate with other volunteers via a daily email that keeps all informed of what goes on each day.
