Chip, Part 2

Sometimes the best rescue story is when a dog doesn't need rescuing at all.

Yesterday, a little dog we called Chip arrived at Lucky Dog after being abandoned into the unsuspecting arms of a new volunteer.

Today, a man came to the shelter looking for him.

As we talked, the story slowly came together.

"Chip" wasn't Chip at all.

His real name is Luca.

And somewhere in Lakeside, a little girl had spent the morning crying because her dog was gone.

It appears that a family member, acting without the owner's permission, had taken Luca from their house and dropped him with us.

That certainly explains why Luca was so scared.

Thankfully, Luca was safe.

After a nice conversation, it quickly became clear how upset the owner was about the entire situation, especially since Luca had just been neutered on Monday (which explains why he still had stitches). So, Darryl drove Luca home.

And when Luca saw his family again...

Let's just say there was no question that he knew exactly where he belonged.

His family was incredibly grateful that Lucky Dog kept him safe overnight and helped bring him home.

Stories like this remind us that helping dogs is really about helping people too.

And while all of this was happening, two more puppies from the family we've been assisting were able to move on to their next chapter. A huge thank you to The Ranch for jumping in and welcoming the little brother and sister, even with a full house.

The rescue community here at Lakeside is pretty special.

Organizations, volunteers, fosters, and neighbors work together every day to help dogs and the people who love them.

AND... it appears our lakefront property is no more, which means we can get back to working on shelter improvements before the next big

So...

Today was a good day.
